Medical aid via smartphone

In peacetime, medical chatbot “Marta” was making appointments to a doctor, reminding about planned vaccinations, providing quick communication with the call center (registry) of selected hospitals, answering questions concerning patients’ rights and free medical services.

In 2021, a development team of the medical bot from Mariupol “Open Data Lab – Ukraine” won the competition of civic tech instruments “Act to connect” from the Eastern Europe Foundation with funding from the EU. The prize fund was used to elaborate a chatbot features to answer questions about Covid-19 vaccination and to remind of the need to re-sign a declaration with the doctor.

Nowadays the team once more responds to the challenges of today. Now “Marta” includes a new feature to self-diagnose medical conditions among the medical society and volunteers. This is important for people who do not have free access to medical facilities and doctors, in particular – for internally displaced people who are abroad or due to hostilities cannot fully access medical facilities within the country. Thus, the medbot helps to reduce the burden on the medical system of Ukraine.

The chatbot also informs users on changes in the medical system, in particular on the provision of medical care to migrants, the work of the “Affordable Medicines” Program, etc.

After a full rebuilding of livelihoods in Bucha, the team plans to launch additional service opportunities for this city, in particular through integration with the medical information system “MedAir”.
