Yesterday, on June 8, Kyiv hosted an award ceremony for winners of the Charitable Ukraine-2022 National Competition – Charity for Defense of Ukraine. East Europe Foundation representatives were honored to be invited to the event. Our Shelter Program won 3th place in the Platform for Good nomination!
The Shelter Program was the Foundation’s rapid response to the internal displacement crisis in Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion. During the year of Program implementation, we managed to help almost 75,000 Ukrainians, arranged 65 shelters in 14 regions of Ukraine and delivered and distributed 275 tons of humanitarian aid.
“The Shelter Program has become both a challenge and a solution for the Foundation’s team since the outbreak of the big war,” said Olha Moloko, East Europe Foundation Program Manager. “The words of gratitude from Ukrainians we helped and the realization that we were useful to them are the key rewards for us. But when an independent party expresses appreciation and recognition of the Program, it becomes a new impetus for us to keep going in the same direction.”
This year’s Charitable Ukraine competition received 1,463 applications in 26 categories. Participants are businesses; public, volunteer and charitable organizations; local communities; children and youth groups; educational institutions; clubs; and, citizen associations from all over Ukraine and the world. It is an honor to be among them!
East Europe Foundation received the following awards from competition organizers a special diploma with honors for implementing the Shelter Program. We are happy and proud to be part of the charity and volunteer movement in Ukraine!
We express our special gratitude for financial assistance and support from Shelter Program donors, including the European Union, the Eurasia Foundation, the Syms Foundation, the Europe Foundation Georgia, CNFA Europe, the Center for Liberal Modernity, the King Alfred School Society, Two Degrees ApS, Brücke der Hoffnung, Stiching Derdengelden, RB (Hygiene Home) Poland Sp. z o.o., the Eldorado retail chain, Fondation de France, the Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine and a variety of individuals.
