With the financial support of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), acting on behalf of the Ukraine Community Recovery Fund, East Europe Foundation has launched the “Strengthening Mine Action” Program.

The Program aims to support the recovery of territorial communities in Ukraine by strengthening their mine action capacity. Under the Program, up to 25 small grants will be awarded to implement local initiatives and comprehensive projects.

The grant support will enhance the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) and mine action actors to address the priority needs of territorial communities, pilot locally developed solutions, strengthen logistical and technical capacity, and implement mine action initiatives.

The Program also seeks to promote the participation and inclusion of women, children, persons with disabilities, veterans, internally displaced persons, people who have returned to their places of permanent residence, persons affected by explosive ordnance, and persons who have suffered psychological trauma as a result of the war, as well as other population groups affected by its consequences.

Expected results of the Program include:

• educational and awareness-raising activities in the field of mine action, including information materials, public information campaigns, outreach activities, first aid and/or tactical emergency medical care training, and the creation of a modern learning environment;
• logistical and technical support for public-sector organisations and institutions responsible for coordinating mine action;
• psychological assistance and psychosocial support for persons affected by explosive ordnance, demining professionals, emergency response personnel and their family members, as well as the delivery of specialised training for relevant professionals.

The Strengthening Mine Action Program is implemented by East Europe Foundation, funded by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), acting on behalf of the Ukraine Community Recovery Fund.
