During the time of the full-scale russian aggression, Marieluise Beck and Ralf Fücks – co-founders of Zentrum Liberale Moderne and longtime partners of East Europe Foundation – became the first German politicians who visited Lviv and Kyiv to express their solidarity and support for Ukrainians.
In Lviv, the German politicians met Julia Eichhofer, Manager and Editor of Ukraine Verstehen Project, and Victor Liakh, President of East Europe Foundation. EEF’s President presented our new humanitarian projects and initiatives which are aiming to support Ukraine during the war like the Shelter Project that supports internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
In the capital, Ralf Fücks and Marieluise Beck held a number of meetings with the People Deputies of Ukraine, government officials, politicians, and representatives of civil society.
Particularly, on March 30, a meeting with Oleksandr Merezhko, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, took place, which was an important step to strengthen Ukrainian-German relations.
A conversation with Serhii Taruta, People’s Deputy of Ukraine and President of the Association of People’s Deputies of Ukraine which took place on the same day was also fruitful and constructive. Mr. Taruta emphasized that Marieluise Beck is one of these German politicians who loudly and clearly demands from the German leadership to support Ukraine with not only words but with ammunition and highlighted her indifference to the tragedy which is happening in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
People’s Deputy of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko emphasized the need to strengthen military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. During the conversation, she paid particular attention to the war crimes of Russians and the necessity to bring the criminals to justice. As a result of the meeting which took place on March 31, the sides planned to intensify the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
On April 1, Ralf Fücks and Marieluise Beck met Ambassador of Poland in Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki.
During their visit to Kyiv, the co-founders of LibMod visited Children’s Hospital Okhmatdyt.
East Europe Foundation is grateful to the partners for constantly supporting Ukraine. Such sincere friends bring our victory closer.
