Today, on May 19, the International Charitable Organization East Europe Foundation and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) signed a memorandum of cooperation.

The document, which was signed by EEF’s President Victor Liakh and Deputy Head of SESU for Digital Development, Transformation, and Digitalization Roman Prymush, contains an action plan with key areas of cooperation. An aim is to increase the capacity of SESU in the sphere of civil protection.

Particularly, the sides agreed to conduct joint information and educational campaigns for adults and children in the sphere of civil protection. They are also planning to develop software which will be used in demining activities.

Besides, EEF commits to contribute to the material and technical equipment of training and methodological centers for civil protection and life safety in the regions and the training center of the Main Directorate of SESU in Kyiv. EEF will also ensure providing training to volunteers who will take part in demining activities.

“About half of Ukraine’s area needs humanitarian demining. So we well understand how much work SESU has nowadays. For more than 13 years now, EEF is a reliable partner for state authorities, which provides them with expert, financial, and informational assistance. We will be delighted if our experience will be useful here as well,” – says Victor Liakh, EEF’s President.

The presentation of a mobile application “Demining of Ukraine” was also conducted during the event. The application was developed jointly by SESU and the State Enterprise “Infotech” and will allow citizens to notify the State Emergency Service about explosives, while the rescuers will be able to react promptly to these notifications.

Development of the application was supported by the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, which is being implemented by East Europe Foundation.
