As a result of the war, Ukraine has become one of the most heavily mine-contaminated countries in the world. According to various estimates, more than 130,000 square kilometres of land remain potentially contaminated by explosive ordnance. This poses a serious threat to the lives and health of thousands of Ukrainians and negatively affects both the country’s economy as a whole and the development opportunities of territorial communities in particular.
To support activities in the field of mine action, East Europe Foundation is launching the “Strengthening Mine Action” Program. Under the Program, up to 25 small grants will be awarded to implement local initiatives and comprehensive projects.
The grant support will enhance the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) and mine action actors to address the priority needs of territorial communities, pilot locally developed solutions, strengthen logistical and technical capacity, and implement mine action initiatives.
The Program also seeks to promote the participation and inclusion of women, children, persons with disabilities, veterans, internally displaced persons, people who have returned to their places of permanent residence, persons affected by explosive ordnance, and persons who have suffered psychological trauma as a result of the war, as well as other population groups affected by its consequences.
Expected results of the Program include:
Program duration: August 2026 to March 2027.
The Strengthening Mine Action Program is implemented by East Europe Foundation, funded by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), acting on behalf of the Ukraine Community Recovery Fund.
