ROOTS Announces Nine Winners of the Grant Competition

East Europe Foundation has announced the winners of the grant competition for just transition projects in coal communities under the ROOTS Program – Phase I.

The expert jury selected 9 organisations that will receive funding ranging from UAH 3 to 5 million for initiatives that enhance energy resilience, promote socio-economic diversification, improve the situation of vulnerable population groups, and strengthen the institutional capacity of communities in Lviv and Volyn oblasts.

Learn more about the winning projects:

  • Modernisation of the waste management system in the Novovolynsk Urban Territorial Community: development of a local waste management plan and procurement of specialised equipment
  • NOVO: Academy of Local Business Leaders
  • Capital repair of the electricity supply network with the installation of a grid-connected solar power plant to serve the water intake facility in the city of Radekhiv
  • Comprehensive thermal modernisation of the House of Culture in the village of Lytovezh
  • Improving the quality of life and economic resilience of the Poromiv Territorial Community during the transformation of the coal region through the modernisation of the centralised water supply system and support for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Establishment of an immersive technologies laboratory at the Sokal Vocational Lyceum
  • Reconstruction of a warehouse facility for the installation of a fuel pellet production line in the city of Sheptytskyi
  • Reconstruction with replacement of the existing pressure sewer collector from Pumping Station No. 3 in the settlement of Zhvyrka
  • Reconstruction of electrical networks through the installation of a hybrid solar power plant for the wastewater treatment facilities of the city of Sheptytskyi

We congratulate the winners and wish them success on this journey. We believe that each initiative will contribute to the just transition and sustainable development of its community.

In total, under the ROOTS Program, we will support up to 15 projects that will implement the Just Transition Action Plan through concrete solutions. The second phase of the program will cover communities in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and the city of Ladyzhyn (Vinnytsia Oblast).
